Peggy Pope was an American actress.

A theater major from Smith College, Pope made her Broadway debut in 1959 in Moonbirds, opposite Wally Cox. She also worked on the stage alongside Maureen Stapleton in The Rose Tattoo and with James Stewart in a revival of Harvey.

A theater major from Smith College, Pope made her Broadway debut in 1959 in Moonbirds, opposite Wally Cox. She also worked on the stage alongside Maureen Stapleton in The Rose Tattoo and with James Stewart in a revival of Harvey.

The character actress is perhaps best known for playing Margaret, the tipsy office secretary, in the film 9 to 5 (1980). She also appeared on the big screen in The Last Starfighter (1984), Once Bitten (1985), and The Substitute (1996).

Pope had a number of recurring roles in television series such as Calucci’s Department, Billy, Soap, and Barney Miller, and guest starred in Bewitched, Rhoda, Mork & Mindy, Knots Landing, Hill Street Blues, The Twilight Zone, The Golden Girls, Empty Nest, ER, Law & Order, and Ed.

Pope died May 27, 2020, in Fort Collins, Colorado.  She was 91.
