Michael Bond was a British writer, best known for creating the beloved children’s book series featuring the character Paddington Bear, a marmalade-loving, duffel coat-wearing Peruvian bear who is discovered in London’s Paddington station by a human family.
Bond’s first book featuring the character was published in 1958. Paddington would go on to be featured in more than twenty books and several television series, including the Hanna-Barbera 1989 production, Paddington Bear, as well as the 1997 series The Adventures of Paddington Bear, and the television special Paddington Bear Goes to the Movies.
His bear also got his own movie in 2014, and Bond himself made a cameo in the film.
Bond died June 27, 2017, in Paddington, London, England. He was 91.
