KTLA's Gayle Anderson to Receive Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award
The Television Academy today named beloved KTLA journalist Gayle Anderson as the recipient of the 74th Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award, selected by the Los Angeles Area Governors Award committee.
The Governors Award is presented annually to an individual, company or organization that has made a substantial contribution to television broadcasting in the greater Los Angeles area. As this year's honoree, Anderson is being recognized for several decades of exceptional and insightful reporting on events, causes and issues impacting viewers across the region.
The announcement was made today by Television Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma, who surprised Anderson on-air during a KTLA Morning News segment covering the good work of Project Angel Food.

One of the longest-tenured reporters in Los Angeles, Anderson has leveraged her expertise and local connections to consistently deliver news and information that matters to viewers. Her inimitable style and connection to the community is unmatched in the industry.
Anderson is also a devoted community advocate, a sought-out event host and speaker, and a passionate voice for those in need. A champion of many charitable organizations and programs, she has supported the American Cancer Society, the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the American Diabetes Association, the Arthritis Foundation, as well as several literacy and education programs including the Los Angeles Library Foundation.
"Gayle, you are a Los Angeles icon; and we are thrilled to recognize you and your incomparable broadcasting career," said Scherma, in making the announcement. "You are an indispensable resource for millions across the southland, the voice of the community and an essential part of the fabric of this great city."
Over a career spent in major markets from New York to Houston to Miami and Los Angeles, Anderson's work in broadcasting and in community outreach has been recognized with dozens of awards including 16 Emmys, the Radio & TV News Association of Southern California Lifetime Achievement Golden Mike Award, the Presidential Consumer Affairs Award, "Leader of the Year Award" from the Houston Leadership Association, and the 1988 "Presidential Consumer Affairs Award."
Christie Lyn Lugo Leigh and Stephanie Hampton are the Los Angeles Area Governors.
The Los Angeles Area Governors Award will be presented during the 74th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards Saturday evening, July 23, 2022, at the Television Academy Campus in North Hollywood.
