Doniger began as a screenwriter and went on to become a prolific television director.

Walter Doniger, writer and director of ABC's primetime soap Peyton Place, died November 24, 2011, in Los Angeles. He was 94.

From 1964 to 1969, Doniger directed 64 episodes of Peyton Place, based on the movie of the same name.

His career started as a writer for film, having scripted projects like Along the Great Divide, starring Kirk Douglas, and Rope of Sand, with Burt Lancaster.

Directing was his next love, and he furthered his career in television by helming episodes of Cheyenne, Conflict, The Web, Tombstone Territory, Bold Venture, The Rough Riders, Bat Masterson and Men Into Space.

His last feature was a 1991 actioner called Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth.

He is survived by his wife.
