Sammy Shore

Sammy Shore was an American comedian and actor.

Shore began his comedy career at the “Borscht Belt” summer resorts of New York’s Catskill Mountains, in a partnership with comedian Shecky Greene. Elvis Presley chose Shore as the opening act for his 1969 comeback tour, and Shore opened for many others, including Tony Orlando, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Tom Jones, Ann-Margret, Connie Stevens, Bobby Darin and Glen Campbell.

In 1972, Shore, his first wife, Mitzi, and writing partner Rudy De Luca founded the Los Angeles comedy club The Comedy Store, in the building which was formerly occupied by the legendary Sunset Strip nightclub Ciro’s. Mitzi Shore took over as sole owner in 1974.

Shore performed his comedy act on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Joey Bishop Show, Playboy After Dark, The Hollywood Palace, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, The David Frost Show, and The Mike Douglas Show.

As an actor, Shore appeared on television in episodes of Route 66, McHale’s Navy, The Munsters, Gomer Pyle: USMC, Love, American Style, Sanford and Son, and Coach.

Shore died May 18, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 92.
