Paul Junger Witt

Paul Junger Witt was an American film and television producer.

A 1963 graduate of the University of Virginia, he had a seat on the school's council of the arts as well as a membership on the USC School of Cinematic Arts board of councilors.

Witt would meet his future wife, television writer Susan Harris, in 1973 after he left Columbia Pictures to work with Tony Thomas at Danny Thomas Productions (Tony was a son of comedian and actor Danny). In 1975, the two men formed Witt/Thomas Productions, then Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions. They produced such hit TV shows as Here Come the Brides, The Partridge Family, The Golden Girls, Soap, Benson, Empty Nest and Blossom.

Witt won two Emmys when The Golden Girls received awards for Best Comedy Series in 1986 and 1987. He also earned an Emmy for outstanding single program for the made-for-TV movie Brian’s Song. Dead Poet’s Society also brought him an Oscar nomination for best picture.

Witt died April 27, 2018, in Los Angeles, California. He was 77.
