Caitriona Balfe

Widely considered the most successful ever Irish fashion model, Caitriona Balfe has now broken into television with her acclaimed performance as Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser in Starz's hit series Outlander.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, and raised in the village of Tydavnet, Balfe's modeling career began after being scouted by an agent at a Dublin shopping mall at age 19. She rose to become one of the top 20 most in-demand models in the world, walking the runways for designers including Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Armani, Oscar de la Renta, and Louis Vuitton. In 2006, Balfe had a minor role in the film The Devil Wears Prada, and in 2009, she left the modeling world behind to move to Los Angeles and pursue an acting career.

Balfe's first roles included parts in films such as 2011's Super 8 and 2013's Now You See Me. She also starred in the 2012 web series H+, produced by Bryan Singer. In September 2013, Balfe was cast as Claire in Outlander, based on the hit book series by author Diana Gabaldon. For this performance, Entertainment Weekly named Balfe one of its "12 Breakout Stars of 2014." She was also nominated for Best Actress in a Lead Role and the Rising Star Award at the 12th Irish Film & Television Awards, and won the 2015 Saturn Award for Best Actress.
