Anthony Sydes was a child actor best known for playing Peter in the classic 1947 holiday film Miracle on 34th Street. His uncredited role as Thelma Ritter’s son came in a memorable scene at Macy's department store in which Santa Claus (played by Edmund Gwenn) sends her to a rival store to find a toy the boy wants for Christmas. The film was nominated for four Oscars and won three.
Sydes also appeared in a variety of television shows, with small, sometimes uncredited, roles in The Stu Erwin Show, Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, The Life of Riley, Hopalong Cassidy, Cavalcade of America, Omnibus, Fireside Theatre, The Lone Ranger, The Loretta Young Show, Father Knows Best and Dragnet.
His film appearances began in 1946, when he appeared at the age of five in Claudia and David as the character Bobby. Other film credits included Sitting Pretty, It Happened on Fifth Avenue, Cheaper by the Dozen, Johnny Comes Flying Home and his last role, 1958’s Gunsmoke in Tuscon.

After leaving the entertainment business Sydes served two tours with the army in Vietnam, as well as in Italy and Germany. After 20 years of service he retired, having earned a National Defense Service Medal and a Purple Heart.
Sydes died June 20, 2015, in Springfield, Virginia. He was 74.
