Breaking Barriers in Comedy: A Celebration of Black Television
About The Event
The Television Academy cordially invites members to
Breaking Barriers in Comedy: A Celebration of Black Television
Join us for a lively conversation exploring the impact and evolution of Black sitcoms from some of the format's most daring and innovative creators.
Learn how these trailblazers used the script to promote thoughtful and insightful explorations into Black life and culture. They merged history, politics, personal thoughts and experiences into hilarious and educational sitcoms, and turned them all into TV staples. What makes their representations of Black men and women, young and old, along with children, families, not to mention romantic relationships, stand out?
We will ask these questions and more as we dialogue with the brilliant Black content creators, writers, and performers who deliver more than laughter to amplify Black life and culture on television.
