Bea Wain was a singer best known for being one of the last big band singers. Billboard named her the most popular female band vocalist of 1939, and she was the first to record the Harold Arlen-Yip Harburg standard “Over the Rainbow.”
Wain frequently sang on radio shows and co-hosted the series Mr. and Mrs. Music with her husband Andre Baruch, a radio announcer and commentator.
She also appeared on Family Feud, and her music was featured on episodes of My Music: The Big Band Years and the 2011 miniseries Mildred Pierce.
Wain died August 19, 2017, in Beverly Hills, California. She was 100.
