Gregg Allman was a singer, songwriter and musician best known for co-founding the Allman Brothers Band with his brother Duane. Their hits included "Midnight Rider," "Melissa" and "Whipping Post.”
Greg and Duane Allman developed an interest in music during their teens and began performing in the Allman Joys in the mid-1960s. After performing for a time as the Hour Glass, the band regrouped in 1969 as the Allman Brothers Band.
Gregg Allman appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Today, Piers Morgan Tonight and The Colbert Report.
His music was featured on the series Freaks and Geeks, Third Watch, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, CSI: NY, One Tree Hill, Revenge, Fringe, True Detective and Supernatural, as well as the films The Bodyguard, The Perfect Storm, Brokeback Mountain, Bottle Shock, Jack Reacher and Tammy.
He died May 27, 2017, in Savannah, Georgia. He was 69.
