Richard Bensfield was a writer and producer best known for his work on the family sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet. He was credited on nearly 200 episodes, beginning in 1952, until 1966. The series followed Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and their sons, David and Ricky, all of whom played themselves.
Bensfield often wrote with a partner, Perry Grant, who collaborated with him on more than 35 television series. Together they worked on Maude, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Happy Days, The Andy Griffith Show, Mayberry RFD, The Odd Couple and The Partridge Family, among others. Bensfield also contributed to The Lucy Show, The Doris Day Show, I Dream of Jeannie, One Day at a Time, 227 and Love, American Style.
Additionally, he served as an executive producer on the series Diff’rent Strokes, Hello Larry, 227 and One Day at a Time.

After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and attending college, Bensfield got his start in entertainment by applying for a job on Ozzie & Harriet as a writing duo with Grant. They were soon hired and went on to write for all 14 seasons of the series. Their partnership would last for more than 40 years.
Bensfield died June 24, 2016, in La Jolla, California. He was 90.
