Paul Aratow was a writer, producer and director best known for the 1984 “Queen of the Jungle” film Sheena, starring Tanya Roberts. He also produced the television movie The Spirit, which, like Sheena, was created by comic book icon Will Eisner.  

Aratow also wrote, produced and directed the film Bizarre Devices, wrote and directed Doctor Dracula (starring John Carradine), produced My Man Adam, and wrote the 1988 film Purgatory, starring Roberts.

Additionally, Aratow served as a writer on the TV series Beverly Hills Teen and The New Adam-12, as well as 26 episodes of the animated series Sport Billy.

He earned degrees from Cornell University and University of California, Berkeley, and was a Fulbright scholar. He went on to become a professor of literature at Berkeley, and was the first chef de cuisine at Chez Panisse, which he launched with restaurateur Alice Waters.
