David Canary
David Canary was an actor best known for his dual roles on the ABC soap opera All My Children. In nearly 800 episodes from 1984 to 2013 he played twin brothers Adam and Stuart Chandler, one good and the other evil. Adam was the evil twin, who often manipulated, blackmailed and impersonated the meeker Stuart.
Canary was nominated for 16 Daytime Emmy Awards, winning five, in the category of outstanding lead actor in a drama series. He retired from acting in 2010, but returned to play the twins for three episodes before the show’s September 2011 finale. He reprised the roles once more in 2013, when the soap was rebooted and released online.
Canary also appeared on the television series Peyton Place, Gunsmoke, Dundee and the Culhane, One Life to Live, The F.B.I., Hawaii Five-O, Alias Smith and Jones, Police Story, Kung Fu, The Rookies, S.W.A.T., Another World, Law & Order, Touched by an Angel and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He also held a recurring role on Bonanza as Candy Canaday, ranch foreman of the Ponderosa. He appeared on the NBC western in 91 episodes from 1967 to 1973.

Additionally, he had roles in the films Hombre, with Paul Newman, The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, Sharks’ Treasure, Johnny Firecloud and Posse, with Kirk Douglas.
Canary got his start after graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in music. He moved to New York to pursue acting, and in 1962 he made his Broadway debut in Great Day in the Morning opposite Colleen Dewhurst. He would later appear in Tennessee Williams’ final play, Clothes for a Summer Hotel, opposite Geraldine Page.
Canary died November 16, 2015, in Wilton, Connecticut. He was 77.
