Social Buzz: Top TV Shows, April 12-18, 2015

Moods, more than we’d probably like to admit, have a substantial say in what we choose to do… and watch.

While we have our favorite go-to programs, sometimes a craving for comedy can outweigh our need for a good old fashioned tearjerker. This week, television audiences’ mood rings were clearly set on drama, as millions tuned in for action-packed punches and nail-biting rescue missions.

We analyzed the pages of Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, Justified, Daredevil, Silicon Valley, Veep and Cristela, to see if social followed a similar trend towards drama. So which of the following were Facebook and Twitter users jonesing for?

• A new enemy arising in the season premiere of Game of Thrones

• Sarah’s attempts to save her sister clones in the season premiere of Orphan Black

• The capture of Raylan by authorities in the series finale of Justified

• The adventures of a visually challenged superhero in the release of Daredevil

• Richard’s decision about the future of the company in the season premiere of Silicon Valley

• Selina’s first major speech as president in the season premiere of Veep

• Cristela’s new job prospects in the season finale of Cristela


The Social Totals

Game of Thrones ruled over Facebook and Twitter engagements, playing up an impressive 1.1MM likes, comments, shares, tweets and retweets for a 62.6% market share. Orphan Black comes in second place, multiplying social interactions to more than 249.2K overall.

Active Audiences

Now when we look at engagement level regardless of audience size, a much different story emerges. Justified put out an APB to its fans and followers, who responded with 878.4 engagements per 1K users overall. However, Orphan Black was able to reproduce the most activity on Twitter, with 491.8 engagements per 1K followers.
