Gerard Parkes was an actor who was best known for the role of Doc, the amiable inventor on the HBO children’s program Fraggle Rock.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1924, Parkes later moved to Canada, where he worked for most of his career.

On Fraggle Rock, a Jim Henson production that aired from 1983 to 1987, Parkes was the only human character. The rest were furry creatures known as Fraggles, who lived in an underground lair behind a hole in the wall of his workshop.

He also appeared in feature films such as The Boondock Saints and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.   Parkes died on October 19, 2014, in Toronto, Canada. He was 90.
