Julie Payne was an Emmy Award-winning producer who served as managing director of Scott Free’s London office for more than 15 years. Payne was nominated twice: the first time in 2002 for the television movie The Gathering Storm, and the second in 2009, for Into the Storm. She won for the former, sharing the award with Ridley and Tony Scott and others. The BBC-HBO telefilm starred Albert Finney, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jim Broadbent and followed the story of Winston and Clementine Churchill’s marriage during a particularly troubling time.

Payne also served as an executive producer on Ridley Scott’s A Good Year, starring Russell Crowe, Abbie Cornish, and Finney. And she produced the 2009 thriller Cracks, starring Eva Green and Juno Temple, and directed by Scott’s daughter, Jordan Scott.

Payne and Scott began working together in the late 1980s, and they collaborated on films including Thelma & Louise, G.I. Jane, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and the best picture Oscar winner, Gladiator, as well as Where the Money Is, starring Paul Newman, and The Browning Version.

Payne died June 15, 2016, in London, England.
