From the Chair: Entering a New and Exciting Emmy Season

It is hard to believe that almost four months have passed since the last Emmys telecast, and we are already in the throes of a new Emmys season. In fact, the 76th Emmys eligibility period closes at the end of this month, and May 9 marks the deadline for submissions of all entries.

In one way or another, everyone on the Academy team has an eye to those three days in September — even while they continue to publish emmy magazine, process membership applications, produce peer group events and run internship programs. Because even though the Academy is committed to serving this industry and its membership 365 days a year, it is the Emmys that define us as a bastion of excellence in the world of entertainment.

Already the Academy campus is bursting with the excitement of FYC celebrations nearly every night of the week, while others are held simultaneously in diverse locations across Los Angeles — and even a few in New York. And while much time will be spent discussing rules around these events to ensure fairness in campaigning, FYCs have become an Emmy Awards tradition and a singular opportunity for voting members to learn about eligible programs directly from their casts and creative teams.

In my first year as chair, I find myself reflecting on what the Emmy stands for and what she means to so many of us working across the industry. A symbol of excellence and professional achievement, the Emmy celebrates the remarkable reach of human creativity that captivates audiences and leaves an indelible mark on our collective conscience. And though last year's important labor negotiations delayed production in many cases, the field this year is no less competitive, for there is always an abundance of groundbreaking work that makes it impossible to recognize every deserving program or individual every year.

The Television Academy takes great pride in a voting body that is more than 20,000 strong. With our members, we are the stewards of excellence within our industry and are committed to setting and upholding the highest standards of integrity, inclusivity and meritocracy in all our endeavors. As we experience another Emmy season, I hope you will join me in embracing the spirit of camaraderie and collaboration that defines our community even in competition. I am eager to celebrate all of you and our whole industry, not only the winners and nominees, but also the countless individuals — members and non-members — whose work and passion make television magic.

I look forward to the coming months with a deep sense of gratitude and purpose and hope to see many of you as we gather for a multitude of celebratory events. May this season be a testament to the boundless creativity that defines our membership and our industry.
