Neil Travis, Emmy- and Oscar-WInning Picture Editor
In addition to several high-profile movies, Travis had many TV credits, including Roots, for which he won an Emmy.
Neil Travis, a Primetime Emmy-winning picture editor who worked on a wide range of acclaimed movies and television productions, died March 28, 2012, in Arroyo Grande, California. He was 75.
A native of Los Angeles who graduated from UCLA, Travis began his career as an assistant editor at Paramount studios in his early twenties. He became second editor on a series of television shows for Fox, and in 1970 received his first feature film credit for The Travelling Executioner.
He went on to edit such films as Patriot Games, Along Came a Spider and Dances with Wolves, for which he won an Oscar.
His television credits included Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Kung Fu, Harry O and three parts of the landmark miniseries Roots, for which he was nominated for two Primetime Emmy, and won one.
He earned a third Emmy nomination for his work on the 79th Academy Awards telecast in 1977.
Travis received a career achievement award by the American Cinema Editors society.
