Jerry Christian, Primetime Emmy-Winning Sound Editor

Christian spent 42 ears at Universal, where he worked with such renowned directors as Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg.

Jerry Christian, sound effects editor, passed away May 26, 2012, in Burbank. He was 86.

According to news reports, he had been ill for some time.

Christian, an Emmy-winning sound effects editor, worked at Universal for 42 years, where he collaborated with Alfred Hitchcock on Psycho and The Birds, and Steven Spielberg on Jaws. He received his Emmy for Spielberg’s Duel, and a nomination for The Six Million Dollar Man.

He also worked on TV series such as Dragnet, Columbo and Knight Rider.

Christian’s mother, Alice Yates, was Mark Twain’s cousin, and his father, Benton Christian, was Alexander Graham Bell’s cousin.

He is survived by Nan Christian, his wife of 47 years. They both worked at Universal, where she was a secretary when they met.

In 1998, Christian retired from the studio. Other survivors include his son, brother, two sisters and two grandchildren.

The family encourages a contribution to the Motion Picture & Television Fund instead of flowers.
