Ernie Johnson, Sr., Atlanta Braves Announcer

Johnson, who announced Braves games on TBS, was with the team from 1966 to 1999.

Ernie Johnson Sr., a broadcaster for the Atlanta Braves baseball team, died August 12, 2010, in Atlanta. He was 87.

According to news reports, he had been ill for some time.

He was the father of Ernie Johnson, Jr., an Emmy-winning sports anchor for TNT who heads the network’s NBA coverage.

Before he became the announcer for the Braves, a position he held from 1966 to 1999, Johnson, Sr., was a player for the team.

His contribution to the team earned Johnson, Sr., a spot in the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame.

In addition to Ernie Jr., he is survived by his wife Lois, son Chris, daughter Dawn and grandchildren.
