Actress Jill Haworth Dies at 65

Best know for originating the role of Cabaret’s Sally Bowles on Broadway, she also worked extensively in film and television.

Jill Haworth, an English actress who played Sally Bowles in the original Broadway production of Cabaret, died January 3, 2011, in New York City. She was 65.

According to news reports, Haworth died of natural causes.

She was born Valerie Jill Haworth on August 15, 1945, in Sussex, England. She began acting professionally in her teens when director Otto Preminger cast her in the 1960 feature film Exodus.

She went on to work with Preminger on the films The Cardinal and In Harm’s Way.

After Cabaret, which premiered in 1966, Haworth continued to make films, including a number of low-budget horror movies, including It!, The Haunted House of Horror and Tower of Evil.

She also worked in television, including roles on such series as The Rogues, 12 O’Clock High, Bonanza, The Outer Limits, Mission: Impossible and Baretta. Her made-for-TV movies included another horror thriller, Home for the Holidays.

Haworth, who never married, lived in New York since 1967.
