Paul Johnson, Veteran KNBC Traffic Reporter, Dies

Longtime presence on L.A. television was 75.

Paul Johnson, a longtime traffic reporter for Los Angeles television station KNBC 4, died June 29, 2010 in Los Angeles. He was 75.

According to the station’s website, Johnson had been battling a brain tumor for months.

He was battling cancer when he first took a leave of absence from his morning traffic duties in January of this year.

Johnson had been part of KNBC’s on-air team since 1988.

During his long tenure, he provided traffic and weather reports. Prior to joining NBC he worked in radio for many LA stations including KXEZ, KSRF, KACE, NX and KZLA.

In addition to his broadcasting work, Johnson sometimes worked as an actor. His credits included the feature film Paint Your Wagon, as well as several theater and opera productions and numerous television commercials.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in law from Glendale University and studied music and drama at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife.
