DaCosta's acting debut came a year after her appearance on America's Next Top Model, when she guest starred on the TV show Eve. A role in the Antonio Banderas film Take the Lead followed in 2006. In 2008, DaCosta landed a recurring role on the soap opera All My Children. That same year, she made her Broadway debut in the play The First Breeze of Summer. In 2009, she got her first recurring role in primetime when she played Nico Slater on Ugly Betty.
More television roles followed, including guest spots on Law & Order and Army Wives. DaCosta also became active in film, landing parts in movies such as 2010's The Kids Are All Right and 2013's Lee Daniels' The Butler.
Most recently, DaCosta starred as Whitney Houston in the 2015 Lifetime movie Whitney. She also appeared in a recurring role on Chicago Fire, introducing the character she'll play in its spinoff, Chicago Med.
