William Luce was an American playwright and screenwriter.
With a career that spanned over 40 years, Luce specialized in writing one-person plays, many of which, would guide its performers to Tony Awards.
He wrote several plays that starred actress Julie Harris, notably The Belle of Amherst (1976) and Brontë (1982). Both were adapted into television specials, as was Barrymore (1997) starring Christopher Plummer.
Luce also penned the screenplays for the telefilms The Last Days of Patton (1986) with George C. Scott and Eva Marie Saint, and The Woman He Loved (1988) starring Harris, Jane Seymour, and Olivia de Havilland.
Luce died on December 9th, 2019, in Green Valley, Arizona. He was 88.
