Philip Segal

Philip Segal served as the CEO and Executive Producer of Original Productions (OP), a post he held from November 2012 until June 2017. He joined the company as President and Executive Producer in 2012. As CEO, Segal merged a comprehensive and acclaimed career of achievements in creating, writing, directing and producing highly recognized projects for television. He is Executive Producer of the Emmy winning Discovery Channel Series Deadliest Catch as well as many other fan favorites including, Bering Sea Gold (Discovery), Ice Road Truckers (History) and Storage Wars (A&E).

Original Productions produces an average of 250 hours of content per year.

Prior to joining Original Productions, Segal spent three years as Executive Vice-President of Bunim-Murray Productions, creators and producers of MTV's The Real World and E Entertainment's The Simple Life. Previously, as Senior Vice President of Programming and Production for Tribune Entertainment, Segal supervised 200 hours of scripted programming including the highly successful syndicated action hours Mutant X and Earth: Final Conflict.

From 1990 – 1996, Segal was Executive Vice President of Amblin Television at Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. He was responsible for the creation of NBC's SeaQuest DSV starring Roy Scheider and Earth 2. Additionally, Segal oversaw production of the Stephen Hawking Documentary A Brief History of Time, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival, The Civil War Drama Class of 61, Harry and the Hendersons and the highly acclaimed adaptation of Judy Blume's Fudge. During his 6 years at Amblin, Segal also developed and worked on the creation of ER on NBC which was a co-production of Amblin and Warner Bros.

As an Independent Producer, Segal wrote and directed Hobbs End and won the NY Independent Film Festival Award for Best Director for his film The Other Side of Monday. His development slate included The Amelia Earhart Story and Mission to Mars for ABC.

Before joining Amblin, Segal was a programming executive at ABC Television for three seasons, where he oversaw some of the network's most groundbreaking series, including 30 Something, Twin Peaks, Cop Rock and the Emmy-winning series China Beach.

Segal began his multi-faceted career at Fenton/Feinberg Casting, famed for casting such classics as ET The Extraterrestrial, American Graffiti, Chinatown, Shampoo, Young Frankenstein and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest – the ICM Literary Department training program and Columbia Pictures Television.

A long-time fan of the BBC's popular science fiction series Doctor Who, Segal Executive Produced the Doctor's eighth regeneration in 1996. In 2000 he authored a book about the production, titled Doctor Who: Regeneration.

Born in the United Kingdom, Segal was raised in Southern California and is a graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in Telecommunications. In 2015, he was named in the top 20 of Reality TV's Most Powerful Executives by The Hollywood Reporter. He is a Governor of the Television Academy, an active member of the PGA and is a Magician Member of the Magic Castle. For two years, Segal sat on the advisory boards of Mountain Film Telluride, NAB and The Venice Family Clinic – in 2013 he joined the board of directors for My Friends Place, a non-profit organization that shelters homeless youth in Los Angeles.

Philip Segal is a partner and Co-Executive Producer at CRUSH+Lab a production company he has formed with partner David Solomini - CRUSH+Lab has an overall deal with EOne Entertainment with offices in Los Angeles.
