Equally versatile on stage and screen, Lily Rabe most recently starred as Rosalind in the Public Theater’s 2012 Shakespeare in the Park production of As You Like It, directed by Daniel Sullivan. Rabe also recently appeared onstage opposite Alan Rickman in the Broadway production of Theresa Rebeck’s Seminar, under the direction of Sam Gold. Prior to that, she earned the Joe A. Callaway Award, as well as nominations for a Tony, Drama Desk and Drama League Award, for her performance opposite Al Pacino in the Broadway production of The Merchant of Venice, reprising her critically-acclaimed role as Portia from the Public Theater’s 2010 Shakespeare in the Park production of the play. She also starred as Nora in Sam Gold’s production of A Doll’s House at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Following her lauded recurring role in the first season of the multiple-Emmy nominated series, American Horror Story, Rabe starred as series regular "Misty Day" on American Horror Story: Coven. She also portrayed "Sister Mary Eunice McKee" on the highly-anticipated second season dubbed American Horror Story: Asylum and starred as "Nora Montgomery" on the show's "Murder House" installment. "Rabe’s additional television credits include The Good Wife, Last of the Ninth, Saving Grace, Nip/Tuck, Medium, and all three of the programs in the Law & Order series.
Rabe made her Broadway debut in Steel Magnolias, a role for which she earned a Drama Desk Award nomination. She has performed in several other Broadway shows, including The American Plan (Manhattan Theatre Club) and Heartbreak House (Roundabout Theater Company, Callaway Award, Outer Critics Circle nomination). Additionally, she has performed in various Off-Broadway and Regional pieces, including Crimes of the Heart (Roundabout Theater Company, Williamstown); Colder Than Here (MCC); and Proof, Crazy Girl and Speaking Well of the Dead (all for Gloucester Stage Company).
On screen, Rabe appeared opposite Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst in Andrew Jarecki’s crime drama, All Good Things, and she starred in Letters from a Big Man, written and directed by Christopher Munch, which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Her other film credits include Weakness, What Just Happened, Aftermath, The Toe Tactic, No Reservations, A Crime, Mona Lisa Smile, and Never Again.
