Larry King was an American television and radio host.
One of the most prominent inquisitors on television, the suspender-clad pop culture icon was host to presidents, movie stars, athletes, authors, and everyday people alike.
King's media career began in 1957 in Miami Beach at WAHR-AM radio. He was hired to clean up and assist with menial tasks, but when one of the station's announcers abruptly quit, King was put on the air. He remained on the air for over six decades.
King would go on to host a number of radio programs into the 1970s, before Larry King Live premiered on CNN in 1985. That show would become CNN's most watched program, running for more than 25 years and taping more than 6,000 episodes.
The lifelong Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodger fan would leave CNN in 2011, but instead of retiring, he created Hulu's Larry King Now. In addition to his famous conversations, King also appeared as himself in countless film and television projects including the films Ghostbusters (1984), Dave (1993), Contact (1997) and the series Murphy Brown, The Simpsons (voice), Coach, Frasier, Arli$$, and 30 Rock.
King died January 23, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. He was 87.
