Johnny Mandel was an American musician and composer.

A student of Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard, Mandel is best known for composing the theme from M*A*S*H, and the Oscar-winning songs The Shadow of Your Smile from The Sandpiper (1965), and A Time for Love from An American Dream (1966).

He wrote music for a number of films such as A Man Called Ove (2015), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), Brenda Starr (1989), The Verdict (1982), Deathtrap (1982), Caddyshack (1980), Being There (1979), Freaky Friday (1976), Point Blank (1967), The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming (1966), and The Lawbreakers (1961).

Mandel also composed and arranged music for the television series Markham, M*A*S*H, Too Close for Comfort, and Banyon. He was nominated three times for Primetime Emmy awards for Outstanding Music Composition.

Mandel died June 29, 2020, in Ojai, California. He was 94.
