Brent Briscoe was a character actor best known for his roles in the films Sling Blade, A Simple Plan and The Green Mile.

In addition to David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, he also appeared in the director’s 2017 Showtime revival of Twin Peaks, as recurring character Detective Dave Macklay. Additionally, he appeared in the television series Knots Landing, ER, Deadwood, 24, JAG, House, Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, Medium, Desperate Housewives, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, NCIS: Los Angeles, Scandal, Parks and Recreation, Justified, Goliath and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

He also had roles in the films Man on the Moon, The Majestic, Spider-Man 2, In the Valley of Elah, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Yes Man, The Killer Inside Me and The Dark Knight Rises.

Briscoe and Billy Bob Thornton often worked together, and both appeared in the films U Turn, Mr. Woodcock, The Smell of Success and Jayne Mansfield’s Car.

He got his start in entertainment working at a dinner theater, before landing his first onscreen credit in 1990, with a role on the series Evening Shade, for which he later became a staff writer. He also co-wrote the teleplay for The Right to Remain Silent, a 1996 movie at Showtime.

Briscoe died October 18, 2017, in Los Angeles. He was 56.
