Larry Stewart was an American television writer, producer, director, and actor.

He began his career in show business as a child actor, playing the original Video Ranger in Captain Video.

Stewart directed more than 200 episodes of primetime television, including such shows as Perry Mason, The Waltons, Police Woman, Charlie’s Angels, The Incredible Hulk, The Bionic Woman, and Fantasy Island.

As supervising producer of the documentary unit for KNBC-TV, he was awarded four Los Angeles-area Emmy awards for writing, directing and producing.

Stewart became the first president of the Television Academy when the Hollywood organization split from the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 1977. In 1995, he was awarded the Syd Cassyd Founders Award by the Academy in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the organization.

Stewart died February 26, 1997, in Beverly Hills, California. He was 66.
